A Nigerian woman has given birth to a boy on board a rescue ship in the Mediterranean after being plucked from an overcrowded rubber dinghy.
Medical charity MSF said because the baby was born in international waters, his nationality was still under
debate.
A midwife on board the ship MV Aquarius described the birth as "normal... in dangerously abnormal conditions".
Thousands of refugees and migrants risk the dangerous crossing from Libya to Europe in search of a better life.
Last year, more than 3,700 people are believed to have died attempting the journey.
MSF said that the baby's parents, Otas and Faith Oqunbor, had named him Newman Otas. They had been making the perilous crossing with their two other children, aged seven and five, and were rescued just 24 hours before the baby was born.
MSF communications officer Alva White reported the baby's birth in a series of tweets on Monday from the Aquarius - a search and rescue vessel run by the group SOS Mediterranee in partnership with MSF.
"Just over an hour ago a baby boy was born on board the Aquarius. Mum, bub, dad and 2 big brothers are all well," she said.
"The gorgeous little guy was born in international waters so his nationality is still under discussion."
Ms White told the BBC that such events were rare on rescue ships, although another baby was born on the Aquarius in May to a woman from Cameroon.
She said that the 392 people now on board the Aquarius included seven pregnant women.
Mrs Oqunbor said she had been "very stressed" on the rubber boat and had been having contractions for three days.
MSF midwife Jonquil Nicholl, who delivered the baby, said: "I am filled with horror at the thought of what would have happened if this baby had arrived 24 hours earlier - in that unseaworthy rubber boat, with fuel on the bottom where the women sit, crammed in with no space to move, at the mercy of the sea.
"And 48 hours previously they were waiting on a beach in Libya not knowing what was ahead of them."

Syria war: Cessation of hostilities comes into effect
A cessation of hostilities has come into effect in Syria, although it is unclear how widely it will be observed.
If the truce holds for seven days, the US and Russia will carry out co-ordinated air strikes against jihadist militants.
The Syrian army says it is observing the truce but it is still unclear whether rebels will abide by it.
The cessation of violence followed a weekend of air strikes by government forces on several rebel areas.
The opposition Free Syrian Army group has said that while it would "co-operate positively" with the ceasefire, it was concerned it would benefit the government.
Another major rebel group, the hardline Islamist Ahrar al-Sham, initially rejected the deal but later appeared to have softened its stance.
Opposition sources quoted by Reuters said that a forthcoming statement supporting the cessation "with harsh reservations" would be backed by "the largest groups", including Ahrar al-Sham.
Speaking earlier, President Bashar al-Assad welcomed the deal, struck on Friday in Geneva after months of talks between Russia and the US.
But he said the Syrian state was still "determined to recover every area from the terrorists, and to rebuild".
The cessation of violence came into effect at sunset on Monday and will be renewed every 48 hours.
Even before the ceasefire came into effect there were signs of problems with the plan.
Armed opposition groups have formed alliances to fight the Syrian army. They range from groups supported by the Americans and their allies to ones that have had links with al-Qaeda.
The ceasefire calls on US backed groups to separate from the others. They're reluctant to do so - one saying they're in the same trench, with joint operations rooms.
That is just one part of a complicated agreement that might crack open when it comes up against the realities of the Syrian war.
Over the weekend, the Syrian government carried out heavy air strikes in several rebel areas, killing about 100 people.
Russian warplanes were also in action in the provinces of Idlib and Aleppo, say Syrian activists.
Such intensification of violence has occurred before other, aborted, ceasefires in Syria.
"We hope there will be a ceasefire so that civilians can get a break. The shelling goes on night and day, there are targeted killings, besieged cities," said Abu Abdullah, who lives in Aleppo's rebel-held east.
"Civilians have no hope anymore."
Under the plan, Syrian government forces will halt combat missions in specified opposition-held areas.
Russia and the US will then establish a joint centre to combat jihadist groups, including so-called Islamic State and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham (known until recently as the Nusra Front).
The conflict in Syria, which began with an uprising against Mr Assad, has raged for five years and claimed the lives of more than a quarter of a million people.
More than 4.8 million have fled abroad, and an estimated 6.5 million others have been displaced within the country, the UN says.
If the truce holds...
Jihadist groups like so-called Islamic State and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham face the joint might of the Russian and US air forces
Moderate rebels and civilians in the areas they hold will no longer face the threat of indiscriminate air strikes such as barrel-bombing although the Syrian air force will not be grounded completely; aid deliveries will be allowed to areas currently under siege
President Assad will be in a stronger position as the US and Russia engage two of his most effective military opponents while moderate rebels observe the truce with his forces

Mum ‘hacked her four children to death because she couldn’t afford to feed them
A mother of four fed her children pesticide and then hacked them to death because she could not afford to feed them, it has been reported.Yang Gailan, 28, murdered her children outside their home in Agushan, China, and then committed suicide by drinking pesticide, police said.
Ms Yang’s husband, Li Keying, also took poison and died after returning home from work.
The family are believed to have been living in poverty and the children were not covered by national medical insurance.
They were also not allowed to attend schools as they were not registered on the nation’s Hukou residence system until last year.
According to local media, the family were also excluded from China’s poverty relief scheme and had to survive on crops.
Around 200 million people still live under the poverty line in China despite the government promising to tackle it.
Ms Yang’s story has gained national attention and has been widely discussed on Chinese social network Weibo.
One person wrote: ‘Through this tragedy, I see the corrupted local officials, I see the cold and selfish people, and I see the desperate and helpless family.
‘It has revealed a hard truth of this country that the most vulnerable are treated with smear rather than sympathy.’
Another said: ‘What’s more terrifying than poverty is the loss of hope and faith. That is the extreme desperation of helplessness.’

Pastor allegedly shoots, kills minister during argument over Bible at retirement home
Merchant fled the scene in his motorized wheelchair but was arrested three blocks away at about 1:05 p.m., according to the Tribune. He was later charged with first-degree murder and was set to appear in bond court on Wednesday. Police say the shooting was caught on camera.
The Christian Post contacted the Chicago Police Department for further details on why Smith was shot dead but a media representative was not available to respond to questions.
The history page of the Christian Tabernacle Baptist Church in Hamden, Connecticut, says the church was started by Smith in 1962 after previously serving in ministry in New York City.
"CTBC held its first service of worship on July 8, 1962. On Aug. 5, 1962, the newly formed worship group received 54 persons as its first members. The new church congregation was organized under the pastoral leadership of the Rev. Allen H. Smith, a graduate of Yale Divinity School. Smith had just completed a year of service as associate minister of the St. Albans Congregational Church, Jamaica, New York," the church said.
Calls made to the church went unanswered but a post on the church's Facebook page said a memorial service would be held in Smith's honor at 7 p.m. on Wednesday.
"Sad I won't be able to make it there. But I will be with those in spirit. Interestingly enough, it was 48 years ago today on that property that Rev. Smith joined my parents together in holy matrimony. He will be deeply missed," wrote Michelle Wright in response to the announcement.
Wilfred Sealy added, "Very sad for a man of God to be taken away from us in this manner. We have to continue to pray day by day."

University Student Gets An E For Denying Lecturer Chance To Ejaculate In Her After Sleeping With Him In Exchange For Better Grades (Photos)
A female university student is crying foul after getting an E in exams despite having slept with a lecturer and letting him feast on her cookie.
The lady Judith Juahla took to social media to out the lecturer whom she allowed to eat her goodies with no
‘juala’. Apparently the UON student of mechanical Engineering had an agreement with the lecturer to let him feast on her in exchange for better grades. When the results came out all she had was an E and the simple explanation was that she had denied the man to ejaculate inside her.
She took to the student’s forum to express her anger;

However, that was not the problem as she is pregnant and apparently the lecturer does not want anything to do with the unborn child. He gave her money for abortion which she says she wil not use and to make good of her that to out the man she ended up sharing photo of the man.
It will come as a lesson to other ladies out there looking for an easy way out:

Woman Strips Naked In A Bus... Starts Walking Up And Down The Bus Shocking Passengers (Photos + Video)
A seemingly-deranged woman treated passengers to a shocking scene after she,out of the blue, decided to STRIP to her underwear right in the middle of a busy moving bus in Baltimore,Maryland.
The woman,of African-American heritage, went on the stripping rampage abruptly igniting a shocked reaction
from the passengers most of whom can be heard laughing their lungs of the entire time as others were left gobsmacked by the actions.
The eye-popping nudist display was captured by local commuter Christopher Fisher, who then shared the six-minute recording on his Facebook page.
As of yesterday afternoon, the X-rated video had been viewed more than 53,000 times, and counting... With over 2,000 shares.
It's not clear what motivated the wannabe stripper into going all nude and bare but at some point in her crazed act,she could be heard yelling to a fellow passenger 'Give me my motherf**king money!"
The woman, who was dressed in a loose multi-colored t-shirt and a pink and blue stripped bra underneath then proceeded to remove her shirt and is left standing with her hand confidently placed on her hips.
Also, she pulls down her panties and displays her bare butt and genitals proudly to the passengers even trying to do a little awkward strip dance by holding on to one of the bus' poles...as she's left only wearing a pair of knee-high socks.
Four minutes into the video, she pulls her pair of purple panties back on and continues to exchange indecipherable gibberish with fellow riders before calmly sauntering to the exit, unperturbed.

A shocked man can be heard repeating,'Oh Nooo...Oh Nooo...' over and over.
